Poplar Rowing Club Memberships
If you haven’t rowed before and would like to learn how to row then please visit our learn to row course page.
Experienced oarsmen and women are very welcome at Poplar Rowing Club.
The club enters regattas throughout the summer season, with racing at the top 2000m multi-lane events (Wallingford, Metropolitan as well as our own Poplar Spring) and at lots of regattas along the Thames (Twickenham, Kingston, Molesey among others) as well as regattas at Cambridge and Maidstone.
We participate in the main Head Races during the winter: the Scullers Heads, the Pairs Head, the Fours Head and the Eights Heads, all on the Tideway, and at other head races on the Thames, the Medway and the Cam. We aim to compete at Henley Royal Regatta each year.
Social Rowers are also well-catered for. Whether because their jobs are so demanding that they cannot commit to more than the occasional Sunday outing, or because their other sporting involvement demands their attention elsewhere, or possibly because they are ‘between-crews’ – whatever the reason, some of our members are not already committed to squads and/or boats and just want a paddle on a weekend with some training thrown in.
We aim to ensure that everyone gets afloat each weekend morning – arrive ready to row by the time given and we will do our best to ensure that it happens.
Subscriptions
Full rowing membership: £45.00 per month paid by standing order. Of this, £5 per month is the contribution to the Crown Club, offering a chance to win a monthly cash prize.
The club has provided one-to-one coaching and support for apprentice waterman intending to race in the annual Doggett’s Coat and Badge sculling race. Around a third of the winners of this race over the last 100 years have rowed and trained at the club.
Students are encouraged to join the club during their gap year before going to university or college. The initial skills gained provide students with an early advantage when joining their university/college boat club, and several former members have learned to row at Poplar and have then been recruited straight into their university’s senior squad, going on to achieve significant success at high level.
