Last Saturday night, Poplar Rowing Club hosted a glamorous dinner and dance that defied the dreary weather outside. The beautifully decorated clubhouse, adorned in the club’s signature yellow and black, provided a warm and inviting atmosphere for the evening’s festivities.

The event was a true celebration of the club’s spirit, with members dressed to impress in their finest black-tie attire. The delicious meal was one highlight of the evening, followed by a lively dance floor.

One of the surprises of the night was the musical performance by club member Jeff, who showcased his hidden talent as a crooner. His soulful voice captivated the audience and added to the evening’s magic.

Club Captain Ben delivered a heartfelt and humorous speech, expressing gratitude to the club’s members and highlighting the contributions of key individuals, but also addressing the challenge to raise the funding to renovate the roof. The speech was met with applause and laughter, setting the tone for a memorable evening.

Awards were handed out for:

  • Rower of the year: Joseph C.
  • Club member of the year: Chris K.
  • Most improved rower of the year: Tommy R.
  • Swimmer of the year: Anuj & Cory
  • WET (Worst excuse from training): Charles P.
  • Snapped blade of the year: Joesph L.

The event was a resounding success, with a great turnout and a wonderful atmosphere. The organising committee deserves special recognition for their hard work in creating such a fantastic evening. As the night drew to a close, guests departed with fond memories of a truly unforgettable experience.
