Seven Poplar scullers kicked off their head race season at the ever competitive Scullers Head. With a fielding of 529 racing scullers, Poplar was is the company of both old friends and rivals.

A huge and special congratulations goes out to Joelle, who powered her way to a fantastic win in her category. What a brilliant start to the season!

It was a tough but rewarding day for some of our newest head race competitors. Joseph C put in a hard-fought effort for his first-ever Scullers Head, and it was also the first head race in a single scull for Joseph L, Annika, and Taran. Well done on tackling the challenging 6.8km course!

We’d also like to extend a massive thank you to all the supporters who lined the course from University Stone in Mortlake all the way to Putney Pier. Your cheers made a real difference!

For a full look at the results, you can check out the Scullers Head website. Here’s a breakdown of Poplar’s performance:

  • Open (Senior): Joseph C placed 13th and Joseph L placed 18th

  • Women’s Masters A: Annika placed 6th

  • Women’s Masters B: Taran placed 7th

  • Women’s Masters E: Joelle placed 1st

Finally, a special mention to our Poplar brothers who were sculling for Watermen’s Hall, Coran and Charlie. They placed 3rd and 5th respectively in the Open (Apprenticeship) category. Great job, lads!

Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the season brings for all our brilliant scullers!
