It was a fantastic and fun weekend for an all-female Poplar line-up at the Peterborough Summer Regatta, with the club bringing home an impressive five wins overall!

The squad put on a stellar display of racing across both the 1000m and 500m courses. Here is a breakdown of the weekend’s brilliant results:

  • Andrea & Joelle: Both scullers dominated their events, winning their heats and finals in the 1000m and 500m. Andrea’s victories were never really in doubt; she established her leads early on and won by comfortable margins. Joelle’s heats and first final were equally commanding. Her second win, however, was a true nail-biter—clinched by a mere 0.3 seconds in the final metres of the race after a fiercely tight battle with Lakeland.

  • Taran: Huge congratulations to Taran, who secured her first-ever single scull win in a straight 1000m final! She pushed hard right off the start, rapidly taking the lead and crossing the line with a massive 10-second margin. She followed this up with a hard-fought 3rd place in a tightly contested 500m straight final.

  • Anita: Anita put in a remarkably consistent shift, qualifying for both of her finals by finishing a strong second in her heats. She went on to achieve an excellent 2nd place in the 1000m race. In the 500m, she battled hard for third place but was ultimately pipped to the post, finishing a very close 4th by just a canvas.

  • Vicky: Continuing her progression as she returns from injury, Vicky delivered two incredibly strong races. Her performances on the water clearly showed just how much confidence and form she has been regaining over the past couple of months. Full marks for her absolute determination!

“A massive well done to all the women who raced and represented Poplar Rowing Club so brilliantly this weekend!”
