Club Sculling Championship 2018
The club held its annual single sculls event on Sunday, this year with a shortened course from the Blue Bridge to Masthouse on the flood tide. The race was kindly sponsored by the Roberts, Curtis and Read families. For those that haven’t participated before or who aren’t aware of the event, it’s a 10-13 minute long course for single scullers (although two doubles participated this year) over a head race distance. It provides members with a really good opportunity to test themselves and to get some race practice in at the start of the winter season.
18 crews competed on Sunday, with some new faces joining this year’s competition (including the Thames seal who decided to join the race!).
Prizes were awarded to the following competitors: Andrea Stock – fastest woman, Ralph Humphrey – fastest man, Bev Reid – fastest female vet., JP O’Donnell – fastest male vet., Sara Brewer – fastest female novice, and Dan Milligan – fastest male novice. Euan Sloan was the fastest junior, with Ned and Gianluca also taking part for the first time.

It was a really good morning of racing, with fantastic weather and good conditions. A particular well done to Dan Milligan, whose first competition this was after taking up sculling earlier this year.
