In memory of Brian Murray

We were so sorry to hear that former club member Brian Murray passed away on 11 December 2022 after a short battle with cancer.

Brian was a keen rower and began training with the club when he was just 15 years old. His family has long been associated with PBDRC. Brian’s father Wally and uncles Teddy, Bill, and Don all rowed at the club at one time. Teddy even went on to coach one of the club’s Henley qualifying crews.

Current club members Richie Brown, Frank Walker, and John Skelton all remember Brian and his family from their training together back in the 1960s. Richie recalled that his memories of Brian are of a young, fit oarsman who loved the sport and the club.

Brian’s children, Steven, Clare and Sarah, have been fundraising for PBDRC in Brian’s memory. They’ve raised an incredible £1,115 which will help the club expand opportunities and accessibility to rowing for a new generation of east London athletes.

Brian Murray is a part of the rich history of our rowing club and, thanks to the generosity of his friends and family, his legacy is also a part of our future.
