Poplar Rowing Club made a serious statement at the Peterborough Spring Regatta yesterday, fielding an impressive 11 crews—marking one of our biggest entries in recent history for this highly competitive, nationwide event.

The racing was fierce across the board, but the Poplar squad stepped up beautifully. Navigating tough heats and semi-finals, a huge portion of the squad earned their spots in the 4-lane finals, ultimately locking down a string of fantastic 2nd and 3rd place finishes.

🏆 Performance Highlights

  • Andrea Dominates the W1x: The standout performance of the weekend goes to Andrea, who delivered an absolute masterclass in the W1x. Her dominant row to claim victory proved that all those grueling winter training hours are paying off in style.

  • Joelle’s Hard-Fought Silver: After battling through some incredibly tough early rounds, Joelle dug deep in the final to secure a brilliant 2nd place.

  • Tommy’s Debut Success: Racing in his first-ever regatta in a 1x, Tommy showed zero nerves and rowed a superb race to take 2nd place.

  • James & Miles Fire on Debut: In their very first competitive race as a duo, James and Miles clicked instantly, making it to the final and placing a fantastic 4th out of 12 crews.

  • Vicky’s Comeback Trail: Marking a major milestone in her post-injury comeback, Vicky put in a performance that represents a massive step forward.

While we can’t name-check every single row, the club is incredibly proud of the entire squad. Every single crew gained invaluable racing experience and represented the Poplar colours exceptionally well.

👏 A Huge Thank You

An event this size doesn’t just happen. A massive thank you goes to Taran for executing a logistical masterclass in organising the day, and to Miggsy for making the trip down to provide invaluable support from the bank.

Fantastic work, everyone. On to the next one!
