Race reports from Molesey and Staines 2026

It has been a cracking couple of weekends for Poplar Rowing Club, with the racing squad taking to the Thames to compete at both the Molesey and Staines Regattas. The sun was shining, the competition was fierce, and our crews certainly delivered the goods.
Here is a roundup of the recent action!
Bringing Home the Silverware
Our scullers were on top form, picking up an impressive haul of wins across both events:
-
The Unstoppable Double: Huge congratulations to Tommy and Ben, who absolutely dominated in the double sculls (2x). The lads put in fantastic shifts to secure brilliant wins at both Molesey and Staines.
-
Molesey Magic: Molesey Regatta proved to be a particularly successful hunting ground for Poplar. Charlotte sculled her way to a fantastic victory in the single (1x), whilst the quad (4x) of Andrea, Ben M, Tommy, and Ben G also stormed over the line to take first place.
Close Finishes and Squad Spirit
Beyond the pots, it was a weekend of high-quality racing from the entire Poplar contingent. We saw some excellent performances from everyone who competed, including a few nail-bitingly close results that could have gone either way. It is brilliant to see the depth and determination of our racing squad—all those early mornings and tough training sessions are clearly paying off.
A Special Mention
A very special shoutout goes to Niamh and Yara, who made their racing debut together in the double (2x) at Staines. Lining up at the start for your first race is a massive milestone, and you both rowed brilliantly. Welcome to the racing circuit!
Great work all round, everyone. Rest up, recover, and let’s keep this momentum going into the next set of fixtures.
